17 January 2008 - implementation of the Data Retention Directive 2006/24/EC in Lithuania - after a battle between the Parliament and the President of the Republics (see our 18 and 29 December 2007 notes) the new data retention rules were postponed indefinitely due to the parliament being unable to reach a compromise on compensating the communication service providers for data retention (the parliament, however, may have to return to this issue by the 15 September 2007 deadline set forth in the Directive 2006/24/EC).
